about me

Mission

I want to inspire and educate with practical, straightforward travel tips and destination guides, showing that travelling can be simple, yet enjoyable.

Vision

My vision is to become the go-to resource for travelers seeking short, simple guides to make travelling and travel planning effortless.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and taking the time to learn more about me and Casual Getaway. My name is Aleksi, and this is the short story why this blog exists and what I aim to achieve.

My Story

After another fantastic summer holiday, I decided to try something new in addition to my day job – this blog. At the very least, I knew I’d learn a lot about SEO, blog creation, and blogging. But if things go well, I could one day turn this into a part-time job. This blog will also help me grow as a traveler, giving me a new purpose to thoughtfully plan and share my trips.
So here I am, after a long day at work, writing my blog’s about page. Unlike many other travel bloggers, I’m not planning to sell all my belongings and travel full-time. Instead, I’ll continue exploring new countries during my holidays, sharing valuable information, tips, and tricks from my unique perspective.
I’ve been fortunate to travel quite a bit in recent years, and I know there’s much more to come. Through this blog, I hope to inspire and educate others, showing that travel can be incredibly enjoyable while keeping it simple.

My interests

Like many, I adore sunsets. Each one seems more beautiful than the last. During my travels, I often go for hikes or other adventures that allow me to admire nature. And after that, well, I do enjoy good food and a cold beer. 😊 Another, perhaps less common activity I enjoy is Urbex, or Urban Exploring. If the location and time allow, I like to visit abandoned places. I always research the history and local laws to ensure I am not doing anything illegal or unethical and do my best to leave the places as they were, respecting the locals.

My best adventure

I am not into extreme sports, but if I had to choose my greatest travel moment, it would probably be rock climbing in Thailand. With no previous experience and hardly any instructions, I found myself climbing a very steep rock at a beach. After 15 minutes, I was exhausted and scared but filled with adrenaline. I promised myself I wouldn’t climb anymore, even though we had paid for a full 4-hour session. However, after calming down and watching others climb, I decided to try again. This time, I enjoyed it immensely. That experience remains one of my greatest travel memories.

How i travel

I try to travel light and smart. Especially for practical reasons – I’d rather carry a small to medium-sized backpack and have my clothes washed at a local washing service than pulling a huge suitcase behind me on the cobblestone roads of many countries. We have all been there. Honestly, I also think if most frequent flyers reduced their luggage to only essentials, or even to carry-on only, it could even reduce carbon footprint. Obviously it is not that simple, but it’s just a though I sometimes think of.

I use public transportation, and try to find local restaurants to eat at. This not only supports the local economy but also provides a more authentic experience. Most of the times the truly local restaurants serve the greatest food and have the best service.

I always make an effort to learn basic phrases in the local language and respect the culture and traditions of the places I visit.

Casual Getaway

So, what is Casual Getaway? Simply put, this is my effort to provide helpful content, in a reader-friendly format – in other words, short guides.

Travelling is already pretty accessible, and it will keep getting more accessible to more and more people. There is a downside; popular destinations are drowning in tourists and losing their charm. The destinations themselves have not changed and are still worth visiting, but to get the most of it, you should do some research and planning.

That’s where Casual Getaway comes in.

The internet is loaded with information, which is generally a good thing, but in this case makes travel planning difficult. You can’t (or at least shouldn’t) spend weeks or months just to plan your one week holiday under the sun. Casual Getaway is here to provide useful information about selected places, in a short and concise way. Forget those long and tiring guides explaining every detail about everything. You don’t need that. You need the basics and some ideas, and you’re ready.

Thanks for reading the blog. 🙂
